Calling it now. He's a guardian angel helping her to enjoy her literal LAST the title. It's so strange to see Kate McKinnon speak seriously about something. From start to finish, this film accomplished what it set out to do. Victims of sexual harassment and abuse by people in position of power are put in impossible positions having to decide if their desire to speak out is worth forsaking their career- which is the thesis of the film. Bombshell captures perfectly the inflection point we have reached where truth is being brought to power, and gives a firsthand account of well-known figures who have been in those positions of having to choose between being an ally to women and their own careers.
The movie revolves around Fox News, yes. There was no dialogue, thematic element, or any other factor that gives this film a political slant. What we get however, is an exploration of power dynamics in office politics and power. This is not a crucifixion of conservatism or an anointing of liberalism, but a biting and uncomfortable dive into sexual harassment that shows the wrongness and complexity its victims face. Absolutely brilliant.

It's original title was 'Fair and Balanced' It's directed by the director of the Austin Powers films, Meet the Parents films, and three HBO TV films about politics. Margot Robbie's character is fictionalized. This version of Roger Ailes will portrayed by John Lithgow. I would counter and say that I think the reasoning behind that choice is that they are flashbacks and they have to make the characters look younger. But for the three films i've listed so far, that doesn't seem to be the case. It has specifically been done on women's faces. I can imagine the reasoning behind this choice is to make the actresses look beautiful/younger. I think it a) makes their faces look robotic and smoothes over emotions on their faces and b) it's a disrespectful way to artificially bring up these actresses to a standard of beauty that the decision-makers think we need actresses to be in order to watch them. It may be slightly early to go on this rant as i've only seen this on trailers so far and perhaps it has a story/character reasoning behind it in the full films. In the case of "Bombshell" I understand one of the posters mentioned that the extensive use of prosthetic and CGI in the film has already been covered in the media. That this is done to look more like their real life characters. Fine, I get it, but it still makes the facial expressions seem off and robot-like. Don't like it from a purely film-making stand-point. Just look generally like the person you're supposed to be and our suspension of disbelief will do the rest. Just tell the story. In Star Wars, I see now that it's really only that one shot of Rey that I have timestamped. I would reckon that, as one of the posters mentioned, that it was probably just done to show the Dark Side version of Rey. By making her more gaunt through likely CGI. It still looks weird and stiff though, inhuman-like. Don't like it.
Honestly, between this video and his extremely awkward apology interview after being released by KC, I kinda feel bad for the guy. I'm not excusing his behavior: he's had multiple instances of aggressive and violent behavior with alcohol. It's easy to say "he should have learned his lesson by now. He's already lost so much, but he keeps messing up. I don't feel sorry for him. But at the same time, he's only 24. It seems like sober Kareem knows that what he's done is wrong, and he obviously knows how much he's lost. He's having a tough time accepting that it's really his fault, because it's just easier as a person to think you're the victim instead of the problem. Playing in Cleveland after growing up and playing college ball at Toledo probably hasn't helped. He didn't have many issues in KC, and most of his problems in his time here were when he was back home in OH. Ailes fears someone poisoned her the day of the debate. Carlson is removed as co-anchor of the popular Fox and Friends and is transferred to a less popular show. Inundated by sexist comments on and off the air, she meets with lawyers who tell her how Rudi Bakhtiar was fired after alleging Ailes's sexual advances. They plan to file a harassment suit against Ailes but tell Carlson she'll need evidence and testimony from other women. With that thought in mind, I don't care about the politics part. I'm looking for story telling. What i can't ignore is the obvious effort to ignore story telling and create a laser point hit piece against an actual television network. Forget creating a cogent story.
If the approach was more along the lines of 'Network' or 'Broadcast News. or even 'His Girl Friday' the story would've held more credibility. Instead, this comes off as an hour and 43 minute version of the Media's reality. In other words - a fantasy. A fantasy that the writers pour in real people and work to make them look bad. What ends up happening is all look bad and there's no conclusion to the film.
Instead of creating solid characters set in the story, the writers and directors present what they want to present to make their case - A flock of blonde "bimbos' to put on screen to sell their "story. In other words, they were sexually harassing those they hired to take the parts in the film. The "Bombshells" are the actresses more than those they portrayed. The two main actresses are far more attractive than the people they play. The third more attractive than just all all women in major television news. Sheesh!
The film makers should say a line in the film, I feel filthy." for presenting the same efforts as they wrote of Fox news in the film.
This could have been so much better if the writers had concocted a tale with fictional woman with greater depth of each character and presented more viable reasons for the bad guy they wanted us to believe. Instead - I guess for libel reasons - the production tippy toes around allegations in hope suggestions begat a bad guy. It just doesn't work.
This is all a pity, because the acting is tremendous. Theron is great. Lithgow gives one of his best performances. The likenesses extraordinary. A bit too much so. The likenesses were so good and knowing one is watching a fictional film, has to have a viewer see this as an effort to portray the characters from a more editorial view point than good story telling.
A better film would've included the Bill O'Reilly, Brian Williams, Matt Lauer, etc. cases. Strip out real names and situations. Make it an investigative reporter uncovering cases all over fictional news outlets and tries to get the story out, but the social media direction of news won't let it appear. THAT would've been a better story! Especially the resolution!
Bottom line: I don't recommend this film. 4 out of ten stars.
Successes: Acting and makeup.
Failures: Story and structure.

And she was right. When I hear this statement I think of 9/11. 19 evil men caused it. Tens of thousands came running to help. Hundreds gave their lives in the attempt. Millions donated blood, supplies, or money to help out. I'm a volunteer firefighter. At my last structure fire we arrived to find all the occupants already rescued. Some near by contractors and some high school kids saw what was happening and threw up some ladders and safely evacuated an elder couple who was trapped. This isn't even close the first time it's happened. Most people are good and caring. I've seen it with my own eyes. And no one can convince me otherwise.

The fall of ash drifted downwind from the Bruneau-Jarbidge supervolcano eruption (in present-day Idaho) nearly 1, 000 miles (1, 600 km) west of the Ashfall site. A large number of very well preserved fossil Teleoceras (extinct hippo-like relatives of rhinos) small three-toed and one-toed horses, camels, and birds have been excavated. Many animals were preserved with their bones articulated; one rhino still bears her unborn fetus, while others retain the contents of their last meal. The bones of the animals show features that indicate that the animals died of lung failure induced by inhaling volcanic ash. The smaller animals with smaller lung capacity were the first to die, and the larger animals were the last. Bite-marks on some bones show that local predators (the carnivorous bone-crunching dog Aelurodon) scavenged some of the carcasses, but no predator remains have yet surfaced. There are also abundant clues to the region's ecology, indicating a savanna of grassland interspersed with trees that luxuriated in a warmer, milder climate than today's. The rapidly accumulating ash, windblown into deep drifts at low places like the waterhole site, remained moderately soft. The ash preserved the animals in three dimensions; not even the delicate bones of birds or the carapaces of turtles were crushed. Above the layer of ash, a stratum of more erosion-resistant sandstone has acted as "caprock" to preserve the strata beneath.
